After picking it up and starting several times I finally found the time to finish it, so glad I did. As a practicing Buddhist I can say that Mr Hesse has captured the essence perfectly, he was a very wise and knowledgeable human.

An incredibly beautiful,poetic and reflective story. The journey of Siddhartha is so powerful the lessons that he learnt along the way and in following his journey the lessons you learn as the reader. The spirituality was captured so well in the characters and a myriad of emotions and personal comes to mind when I think of the searching of self that the characters embarked on. My first time reading a Herman Hesse book and truly I haven't read anything like this. A must recommend for every one. Short story but Powerful

One of the best books ever written - a search for the meaning of existence from an Indian background - and evolving through strands of yogic discipline and denial; spiritual suffering; material and worldly acquisitions after meeting the beautiful courtesan Kamala and culminating in his illuminating encounter with the Ferryman.A magnificent masterpiece

Wow - glad I read this at 57 3/4 and not 21 ? Spoke to me at so many levels and helped me to reflect and make sense of some of my actions. However, as Siddhartha discovered, words and thoughts are so overrated compared to experience and a realisation that everything is perfect - even me!

This book has honestly changed my life. I opened it for a good read on the train, and closed it with tears on my face - not because it was a sad book, but because it spoke to my innermost feelings. I recommend this book to anyone even remotely interested in spirituality or bettering themselvee.
