Nice little scale. Very accurate; shows lbs, oz and kg. Easy to clean and tuck away. Don't recall how much weight it can hold but satisfies all needs in the kitchen - small amounts to large.

The description is inaccurate, it states"The scale can measure up to 11-pounds in .1-ounce/.1-gram increments, for precise portion control."but the scale does not measure in 0.1 gram precision, this is reflected (apparently) in Q&A but why just not to fix the description in the first place?

This is now my number 1 baking and cooking scale. It's level of accuracy is just right for getting the most out of a recipe (bread, especially). The glass top is big enough to hold a descent sized bowl. Unless you set a large bowl or plate on the glass, the numbers are visible and easy to read. And the glass is easy to clean. Been using it for months and have been very happy.A note on accuracy. According the US Mint, a new nickel weighs 5 grams. When I set a shiny new nickel on the Taylor, it reads 5 grams. When I add another one it reads 10 grams. My old Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Scale also does well with the nickel test. The Taylor looks better, it's digital readout is easier to read, and it seems to be relatively durable.Measuring dry ingredients. There are times when I might pour 300 grams of flour into a bowl which is sitting on the scale. The readout will display 300, then 299. What gives? I'm not sure. I do know that if I tap the bowl the weight that comes up after the tap stays, even after additional taps.. I think it might have to with the resolution of the scale. This is not a scientific scale. It can't weigh incredibly light items. It may be that if the amount of sugar or flour I poured is right on the cusp of the next weight increment, the Taylor may have trouble deciding if it should assign a higher or lower weight.The Tare: A scale has to have a reliable, easy to use Tare function. This one does. Just set your dish on the glass tray. Once the scale calculates the dish's weight you press the Tare button. The weight is reset to 0 and you can begin to add your ingredients to the bowl.I think I'll be using this scale for quite a while. Highly recommended.

I like this kitchen scale and I use a scale nearly every time I cook, but there are better models in my mind out there. But if you are just looking to measure small amounts at a time this would suit many.hen I was a weight loss couch I used to shock everyone by showing people exactly why they needed a kitchen scale in addition to their bathroom scale if they wanted accuracy in food.It's crazy to me that in America no one gets this unless they go to culinary school it seems--people will tell you that 8 ounces is a cup, but they do not realize that a cup measures fluid ounces. Anything with air and spaces, such as meat or elbow pasta etc, is measured not in fluid ounces--simply in ounces. So, let's say a recipe calls for 8 ounces of elbow macaroni. You'd wind up using about half of what you are supposed to if you use a measuring cup.A measuring cup will work for flour, sugar, and things that are hard packed--not veggies, proteins, pasta etc. For that, you need this.For baking, it is very important in order to get the same results each time though if you are creating a family recipe or something you will make often, but I won't go into a culinary lesson here.Because I also use a scale for shipping, I have used my share of them.So my favorite kitchen scale I have used is the Mira. Unlike most that use regular AA or AAA batteries that die too often, it has the round kind that lasts FOREVER...and when scales start losing battery power, they get less accurate so that matters to me.I like the glass top on this one as it's easy to clean. However, I am more a fan of the scales that are flat with the glass top connected to the top of the scale (hard to explain but most of the scales now have this feature) for a few reasons. First, it is not easy to clean UNDER this glass platform. Secondly, if you put something like a large pot on it that is not centered, it will go off balance and weigh incorrectly, whereas it is more stable when there is no glass platform ABOVE the scale.I like the tare function and it's easy to read. It is not as easy to store as the smaller flat ones in a drawer or between your cookbooks because this one has the raised platform.So it's good...but it will not replace my Mira for everyday use, although I use this one for my packages.

I frequently use kitchen scales to measure portion sizes. As what is accepted as a portion in America has gotten bigger, so has my waistline. Personally, I found that weighing out portions for me has been an effective way to help me lose weight.This scale is a basic food scale. The scale has a glass top and a plastic housing. The glass top is not removable, which can make it a bit difficult to clean underneath the platform, but not too bad. The plastic housing sounds cheap and hollow, but has held up very well in the 45 days or so I have been using the scale.The scale measures both in pounds/ounces and in grams. I grabbed several different items and they all weighed in right where I would expect. A 10 pound bag of flour weighed in at 9lb 15.6 ounces. A 5 pound weight was 5 pounds, 0.3 ounces, and a 2.5 pound weight was 2 pounds, 6.9 ounces. A stick of butter weighs in at 4.1 ounces. The weights were consistent with our other scale.The scale weighs consistently. When an item is removed and is put back on the scale, the weight does not change.One of the things I liked the most was the fact the scale uses standard AAA batteries. I have had a scale that used CR2032 button cells. This necessitated buying overpriced button cells locally when the batteries ran out or mail ordering them at a good price and waiting. I really like the fact this scale uses batteries that I use in other things.The only drawback I found with this scale is that it seems liquid can get behind the display easily. A small spill resulted in condensation behind the display. The condensation evaporated away from behind the display within a few days though and there seemed to be no effect on the scale.If you are looking for a basic, accurate, and reliable scale, then I would highly recommend this one.

Item: Taylor 3842 Digital Food ScaleThis scale is very accurate. It gives me the same reading as my other scale (Ozeri brand). It runs on 2 AA batteries, which are included. This scale is very light in weight and easy to store.Size: The scale is 6.5" W x 8" D x 2" H. The LCD is black text on a grey background, and measures 2" W x 1" H.Display/Units: The display on screen shows Lb and oz at the same time, along with a single decimal for the oz (ex: 1 lb 2.2 oz). The units can be changes to grams too using the unit button. Max weight measurable by the scale is 11 lbs, or 5 kg.Buttons: There are only two buttons. The On/Tare/Off button and the Unit button. The On/Tare/off button turns the unit on, off, or zeroes it out if you want to add multiple ingredients into a bowl in steps. The Unit button switches between lbs and ounces OR grams.Build quality: The whole unit is made of medium thickness plastic, except for the platform which is made of thick glass, and rests on steel. The buttons do feel a bit cheap, and they make a plastic noise when you press them, and that makes it feel even cheaper. There are rubber feet on the bottom to prevent slipping. Now while the plastic does feel slightly cheap, it is very accurate, the LCD is easy to read, and does great in its purpose.Weighing: To weigh items, turn on, then place item on the platform. For adding ingredients into a single bowl, place bowl on scale first, then turn on, allow it to zero out, and then add ingredients. Press On/Tare/Off again to zero it out again (while bowl is still on scale), and then add your next step of ingredients into the same bowl.
